| Five women, five very different
voices, five-part harmony: Acabella are an exciting new act on the circuit
currently touring the country to promote their recently released cd,
Acabella: After Albany . On the cd and in concert, the five women swop
lead vocals on an eclectic mix of songs ranging from traditional Irish and
contemporary folk and rock, to gospel and jazz. Songs by Van Morrison, Bob
Dylan, Stephen Foster, Tom Waits and Billy Holiday feature alongside
lesser-known songwriters and unattributed traditional numbers. The
harmonies are fresh and fun and the women¹s singing is brimming with
vitality. Many of Acabella¹s arrangements have a deceptive simplicity and
a moving purity of sound while others engage the audience through their
vocal complexity. Acabella¹s first concert was in March 2002 in Aras Chrónáin, Clondalkin, accompanied by one of Ireland¹s most talented composers and arrangers, Navan pianist, Brian Byrne. Since then they have performed in some of Dublin¹s most prestigious venues including the National Concert Hall - “Bealtaine” (May 2002), Dublin Castle, The Cobblestones and The Sugar Club. Their national tour brought them to Siamsa Tíre in Tralee, The Riverbank, Newbridge , Brú Ború in Cashel and An Grianán, Letterkenny, The Town Hall, Galway, The Backstage, Longford, The Forum, Waterford, Donamon Castle, Roscommon and the Hawswell Sligo. Acabella continue to do
corporate work in many of Irelands finest
places such as Kilkenny Castle, The Mansion House, Dublin Castle,
NarrowWater Castle, Bank of Ireland Arts centre to name but a few.
